By now I hope you picked up "The Way I See It" by Raphael Saadiq. Not many people are making music like this today. I'm talking about hot buttered 60's soul by one of the most important voices in soul music. Check him now while he's on tour. Seen here at SOB's in NYC.

In my never ending quest to discover quality Indie artists, I came across the group known as "Ladybug Stingray". The best way I can describe their sound would be rock infused electro-funk. Here out front is Kalen, (aka Princess Smoke 'm'all) on vocals and keys. They have been quite busy tearing up shows around the NYC area. Check them out here.

Long before Barack was calling for change, Leela James predicted on her debut cd in 2004 that change was coming. Now she wants you to help make that happen. Last night at SOB's in NYC, Leela did the damn thing. You missed it? You get to see her tonight!

Such a powerful voice in a small body! Leela James comes to NYC for two nights at SOB's. One note of Leela's voice and you'll hear down home blues, soul and gospel. Simply put, she is the truth!

There was no Jose James at this month's Brownswood sessions but there was plenty of talented artists like GAEA, Erik Rico, DJ Smash and Cecilia Stalin to make the night memorable. For more photos click here.

What was your favorite Tony Toni Tone record? "Feels Good"?, "It never rains in Southern California"?, Raphael Saadiq sung all of those hits and his solo joints and simply tore it down at the Highline Ballroom in NYC. His latest project "The Way I See It" is a throwback to 60's soul. Want to preview?

Raw Fusion's event at the Apt in NYC was fire! DJ's Simbad, Scribe and OP did work on boards. The artists had to keep pace and they did. Click here for more...

I'm so bummed out that summer is almost over, at least I have a few more events to lift my spirirts before it's gone. One that I'm really excited about is happening this Tuesday at the Apt. in NYC hosted by Raw Fusion. When I think of Raw Fusion, one of the first people I think about is DJ Simbad. Simbad will be in the building along with Erik Rico, Daru and Cecilia Stalin (Koop). A party at the Apt is always live and a lineup as strong as this one is sure to be hot! Also this Wednesday at Highline Ballroom is none other than Raphael Saadiq. Thursday at Nublu is Brownswood Sessions #9, featuring TK Wonder, Erik Rico and Cecilia Stalin.

Oh man! Tonight is gonna be so hot on many levels. Frist, the uk soul man Omar will be performing tonight at SOB's in NYC. This is Omar's first trip to NY this year so there's no telling when he will be back. You can't miss this. Afterwards, the after party is going to be banannas with Osunlade spinning at the Sullivan Room, home of Libation. Osunlade is simply one of the hottest producers in the business, particularly his house music remixes. As for Libation, this is the global soul event that rocks every Thursday with Manchildblack as your host and Ian Friday behind the boards.

In the spirit of the Olympics, it's only right that our male soul singer dream team include Eric Roberson going for gold. And why not, Eric is clearly one of the hardest working men in the business. Not only he is touring constantly, he is also the host of Sol Village, a monthly event showcasing up and coming talent at SOB's in NYC. Check out our interview with Erro as we discuss his illustrious career.

Come hang with Wajeed, T3 (Slum Village) and special guest Dwele, who's making a rare intimate appearance at the Sutra Lounge this Thursday. This will be the start of New York's new Detroit monthly. Wajeed dropped the hip hop project "The War LP" last year and is working with Saadiq on the new Platinum Pied Pipers project Abundance, set to drop in October. The first single "On A Cloud" is out now! The 70's flavored motown sound and the voice of Karma make this track a must have. Support independent music!

There are a growing number of bands that are really bringing the funk. The Fuzz Band happens to be one of them. The eight piece group from Norfolk Virginia appeared at SOB's last month as part of Eric Roberson's Sol Village event. Their appearance is known to be the only encore performance at Sol Village. There's good reason for that, this group has it all. They can sing, they can compose and their live show is off the chain! This week they return with another band on the rise, Franklin Bridge. Come down this Tuesday and be prepared to hear these groups turn it out!
