Kira Neris - Behind Closed Doors
When I first heard about the project known as Kira Neris's "Behind Closed Doors" I kind of expected a jazz album. Well I wouldn't call "Behind Closed Doors" a jazz record perse'. More accurately, this is an wonderful arrangement of lush grooves with elements of jazz and house music that is melancholy and seductive. The opening track "Open Doors" is a nice track that has a slightly dark feel to it but wouldn't be out of place at your favorite lounge. "Scampering" has a wonderful arrangement of strings and harmonies placed over a mid-tempo beat. The vibes that accompany the song towards the end just add to the atmospheric soundscapes that make this song such a delightful listen. "Brak Peat" starts off feeling a like a house track but ventures into jazz improvisation seamlessly while maintaining the groove. "Behind Closed Doors" is a very nice debut that skillfully fuses jazz and vocal samples over house and nu-jazz textures. If you're a fan of the Cinematic Orchestra, then this may be for you. Another fine release from the Futuristica label that continues to put out great music.
