Liv Warfield Embrace Me

I had just received a bunch of new music, some of which was leaving me uninspired. I'm thinking that this is not the week for my ears to be serenaded by something new. You know what I mean...that song that grabs you instantly. Allow me to introduce to you, Liv Warfield. As I started listening to her cd, it became very clear that I had hit pay dirt! The Portland Oregon resident's debut cd, Embrace Me, is an exceptional release for this self-trained vocalist. Liv and her producer's, Dave Whipple and Darren Bowls, have created a soulful and rich resonance that compares with the likes of Anita Baker and Sade. The difference being that this disc is more funk driven. Take the title track for example, Liv starts off with an a capella ("embrace me, Love me, keep me, use me, groove me, know me, touch me, just show me" ) before softly singing over the beat. "Groove DJ" is a mid-tempo bass heavy track that finds her requesting some of her favorite artists such as Earth, Wind & Fire and Marvin Gaye ... When Liv slows down the pace, you begin to understand that she is capable of singing just about any kind of material. On "I Decided", Liv opens up the song very softly before jumping in and bringing heat to a lovely and mellow ballad. "Feeling Lonely" is another soulful ballad that displays her gospel roots, particularly towards the songs climax. This is definitively one of the best cd's of 2006. A great addition to any soul lovers collection.
