Omar - Sing (If You Want It)
The King of UK Soul is back with his first CD in five years. Fans of Omar are familiar with his first big hit "There's Nothing Like This" from 1991. Omar's last CD was "Best by Far", but he might've wanted to save that title for this CD.
Recorded in his own studio, "Sing" is 15 soulful, well-produced tracks with a
little help from his friends. "Gimmie Sum" is a funky beat heavy track featuring UK rappers Rodney P, Ashman and Chi-town's own Common. Each rapper spits a verse while Omar rides the chorus. Another version exists with Omar and Common exclusively. "Feeling You" features the Wonder man himself. Aside from Stevie's recent CD, it is his best work in years.
Other highlights include "Stylin" featuring Angie Stone. "Your Mess" is another funky track that features UK singer/producer Don E on guitar. "Ghana Emotion" is a mid-tempo track that features fine keyboard work by Omar himself.
All in all, "Sing" is a very satisfying listen, and long time fans will be more than pleased. Highly recommended.
