PJ Morton - Perfect Song

Soul music lovers of independent artists should be familiar with PJ Morton. His first release, "Emotions" was one of the top cd's of 2005. He has returned with his latest release "Perfect Song". This cd however, has more of pop soul vibe which might take you by surprise. To be honest, I wasn't sure if I liked this one as much. Instead of measuring it against the former disc, I listened to it again and there are some gems here to cherish. Basically PJ Morton is embracing the pop songs of the seventies that he grew up with. He succeeds with songs like "Mary", "Blah, Blah, Blah" (an alternate take of the song "Jiborish" which also appeared on his first disc), and "Runnin". The cut "Destiny", may be the strongest track which has a nice message about following your dreams. Clearly, PJ isn't going to be put "in a box" as track 7 suggests. I can certainly applaud the man's efforts at stretching the boundaries of his music. However, if you want to hear Mr. Morton at best, then I suggest you pick up "Emotions" to appreciate this multi-talented artist.
